Presenting to Sell

We had a blast on Wednesday during our Marketing in the Morning (#MarketingintheMorning) thought leadership seminar! For those of you who missed it, we’ll recap the points and share a few our favorite tweets.

“Presenting to Sell” was inspired by a statistic you’ve probably all heard: the #2 fear in all of America is public speaking.

Like it or not, most of us will have to perform in a public speaking role at some point in our business careers. Why not make it a slam-dunk success?

The 3 P’s of presenting are simple and attainable:

  1. Plan
  2. Prepare
  3. Practice

My dad always told me the secret to not being nervous is being prepared. We can add to my dad’s advice a bit of Steve Jobs’ advice: “practice, practice, practice.” That’s the same unsurprising advice that all world-renowned speakers will give you.

If you’ve spend 30 hours preparing and 30 hours practicing, and you’re still nervous, what can you do to calm those nerves?

On game day, calm your fears by focusing on your checklist:

  • arrive early
  • check the room
  • test equipment
  • have a Plan B
  • handle logistics
  • relax… breathe
  • greet your guests/audience

Your presentation is not about you. Focus on what you can offer your audience.

One more piece of advice: you deliver the message, not the slides.

Share your message with style and enthusiasm! And use these tips to make your presentations GREAT!
